George

State College, PA • eBay: pingballs1

George began collecting Ping golf balls in September 2001. While searching eBay for used balls to play golf, he came across a lavender and white Ping ball. He had never seen one before, so he decided to buy it. His granddaughter especially liked it — and the rest is history.

That first purchase sparked what has grown into one of the finest Ping golf ball collections in the world. Over more than 25 years, George has developed extensive knowledge of Ping golf balls through dedicated research and communication with former Ping employees and retired Ping management. Their willingness to share information helped him become a recognized authority within the Ping collecting community.

George has assisted both new and experienced collectors in learning about the hobby and continues to discover one or two new color combinations each year.

Ping stopped manufacturing their own line of golf balls in 1997, with the product line being phased out of wholesale catalogs around that time. Although they produced balls from roughly 1976 to 1997, they currently do not market or sell Ping-branded golf balls, focusing instead on club innovation Although Ping stopped producing golf balls the beauty and variety of these balls keep the hobby alive.

Collecting Ping balls offers not only enjoyment but also the opportunity to build lasting friendships.

George welcomes questions from anyone interested in Ping golf balls and is always looking to purchase balls valued $300 and higher, as well as entire collections.

Rick

Rick is a collector of many things. About seven or eight years ago he discovered Ping balls and wanted to collect them. Having no idea of value, he started looking to find the top collector of Ping balls — and found George. Over the years, George helped Rick build what is probably the second-finest collection of Ping balls anywhere.

After a few years, Rick adopted a "less is more" philosophy. Due to lack of room, he sold off almost all his balls under $300 and now focuses exclusively on the rarest balls. George sold Rick some of his duplicates and also made deals with other collectors who wanted to sell balls that Rick needed.

Rick has been collecting many things for more than 30 years, and his philosophy is to pay the price to get the best. If you happen to have top balls valued over $800 or so, Rick would pay a fair price.

George and Rick have partnered on many collections from people wanting to sell. The latest was about 1,000 balls from a business that retrieves balls on golf courses from the woods, lakes, and other hazards. The owner had saved all the Pings for 30 years. George and Rick needed just five balls they didn't already have — and sold the rest.

Lynne

Celina, Ohio • eBay: pingdom

A teacher from Celina, Ohio. The Ping ball collection was the idea of their daughter, who was eight years old when she decided to start collecting Ping golf balls. Her small collection grew into a family hobby, so they buy and sell Pings on eBay to both enhance their collection and to introduce new collectors to the hobby.

Bob

Shawnee, KS

Bob's (almost!) lifelong hobby of collecting golf balls began back in 1976 while living on a public golf course in Texas — talk about prime real estate for a budding collector.

While he started with general logo balls, everything changed in 2015 when he found his first Ping (dark pink/white) on his home course in Shawnee, KS — and just like that, he was hooked.

With the ongoing guidance (and likely a little friendly enabling) from his Ping mentor, George, Bob's collection has grown to 100+ balls and counting. Along the way, he's connected with fellow collectors from near and far and genuinely enjoys swapping stories, comparing finds, and hearing the history behind each unique piece.

And of course, every great collector needs a partner — his (somewhat reluctantly 😉) supportive wife, who now finds herself along for the ride, celebrating each new addition and cheering him on... whether she planned to or not.

For Bob, it's not just about the collection — it's about the stories, the connections, and the thrill of the next great find.

Jacob

Charlottesville, VA • eBay: 2014-speller38

Jacob started collecting Pings over 15 years ago. His collection reached well over 100 different combos at its peak, but after a move he took apart his displays and eventually sold off most of it when money became scarce.

He still has 30–40 rare combos which make up most of the value, easily over $10k. As such, when he is in the market to buy, it's usually rarity 8s and higher now.

He occasionally still offers mid-tier balls (7/8/some 9s) on eBay as well, but prefers to deal privately when selling.
